Dr. Junshui Ma is Associate Vice President (AVP) and Head of the Biometrics Research Department at Merck Research Laboratories. He earned his Ph.D. in Machine Learning from The Ohio State University in 2001. Following brief tenures in a national laboratory, a startup, and academia, he joined Merck in 2005. Dr. Ma has extensive experience across the full spectrum of pharmaceutical R&D, including preclinical discovery, clinical development, regulatory filings and approvals, biomarker research, and translational medicine. His research primarily focuses on the integration of AI and machine learning into pharmaceutical R&D. Since early 2023, he has led the development and deployment of generative AI applications in pharmaceutical settings. In addition to leading his team, he has personally implemented several internal generative AI solutions at Merck over the past three years.
